Here the artist performs as a weaver rather than a monumental sculptor. The work is inspired by the old tapestries displayed in the Dark Corridor of the State Hermitage Museum. This long, windowless passage makes the huge, worn in patches tapestries look dusky and mystical, and the once colorful subjects have turned into ornamental images.
The Curtain borrows this slight impression of spectrality from the tapestries, but the 'tears' in the Curtain symbolize more than disrepair — they can also be considered as a sign of unfinished weaving. The Curtain is frozen between action and intention, past and future. The 200 kg steel work casts a delicate lacy shadow on the wall, emphasizing the illusory nature of visual perception.
